The Halfway Point

Feature film scripts run anywhere from 80-180 pages, depending upon the scope of the film, but average length is 90-120. Every minute on the page will end up costing tons of money, so I'll eventually want to hone this script down to somewhere in the 110-130 range.
I've now reached page 70, where some scripts begin to climax, but I'm currently at the halfway point. This first draft looks like it will run long -- about 140 pages or so -- which is fine because I tend to tighten things up on the second pass.
So far, I'm very pleased with the content. It's amazing how the process of writing brings new ideas to mind that could never be planned out when outlining or writing the treatment. When that has happened, I've deviated slightly from the treatment, but overall the structure has remained intact.

For those of you interested in the writing process, here's how I've broken down the sequences to make them easier to tackle:

ACT ONE:
- Entering a Foreign Land
- Seeking Allies for a Dream

ACT TWO:
- Building a School Where Hope Can Live
- Building Support in a Hostile World
- Building a Legacy that will Change the World

ACT THREE:
- The Beginnings of Change
- The Dream Lives On Today!

I've just begun writing the second sequence of Act Two, where Jones heads to Iowa to try raising some financial support.
